Autr AB, part of the lifepolygon group, built the Skinimalist app. This page explains what information the app and this website handle, and how. Skinimalist is designed to need as little of your data as possible.
Analysis runs on your device
Image recognition, ingredient decoding, scoring and skin matching all run locally on your iPhone. No photos or personal data are uploaded for analysis, the app works offline, and there is no login – so you can use Skinimalist completely anonymously. An internet connection is only used for optional features such as web scan and discovering products from the product database.
Information collection and use
Any data collected is anonymous or pseudonymous by default: there is no account, no email address and nothing that names you. Aggregated usage statistics may be used to understand how the app is used and to improve it. Your skin profile and scan history are stored to power the app's features; they are not tied to a personal account. What you can choose to share beyond that is described in the next section.
Skin data you choose to share
Your own ratings, tags and notes stay on your phone and work without sharing anything; one feature does need it — “see others’ experiences”, which shows how other people rated a product and which reactions they reported, and cannot exist without shared evaluations — so it is off by default and we ask before turning it on. If you say yes, your notes, ratings, tags and skin profile — including the skin conditions and diagnoses you entered, which are health data — are sent attached to a random id generated inside the app rather than to any account, and because entries carrying the same id are read together we can analyse what you reported alongside the skin type you gave; we and the AI models we use read that data to find connections between ingredients and skin types, to derive new shared tags and to assess new products, and it is never handed to anyone else as training data, never used for advertising and never sold. Your rating and the reactions you reported become visible to other people in the app, pooled with everyone else’s (your notes are never shown to anyone) — and you can change your mind or erase everything we hold for your id at any time under Settings → Share skin data, with whatever remains deleted automatically after 24 months without activity.
Security
We value your trust and use commercially reasonable means to protect any information we handle. Note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Because the core analysis happens on your device and works offline, most of your activity never leaves your iPhone in the first place.
